Some specialties attract very few trainees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PGMI Induction Policy Manual (IPM) 2027 lists them as uninhabited specialties and reserves seats for some of them. If you are interested in one of these, your chances of induction can be much better.
Uninhabited specialties
The PGMI Executive Council identifies specialties that are markedly deficient or show a downward induction trend. The current list:
| First fellowship | Second fellowship |
|---|---|
|
Emergency Medicine Radiation Oncology Anaesthesiology Psychiatry Ophthalmology ENT Microbiology Histopathology Periodontology Paediatric Dentistry Nuclear Medicine Clinical Haematology Nephrology Neurology Medical Oncology Pulmonology Cardiac Surgery Paediatric Surgery Thoracic Surgery Neurosurgery |
ENT sub-specialties Ophthalmology sub-specialties Paediatrics sub-specialties Rheumatology Critical Care Medicine Infectious Diseases Vascular Surgery Surgical Oncology Orthopaedics / Neurosurgery sub-specialties Breast Surgery All specialties not available in PGMI affiliated hospitals |
NOC based induction
In uninhabited specialties, PGMI allows NOC based induction so that training slots in affiliated hospitals do not stay vacant.
- Only for KP domicile holders.
- The applicant has to arrange the NOC.
- Having an NOC does not guarantee induction. Selection is still on merit.
- NOCs from institutions that have an MoU with PGMI are not accepted.
- NOCs from any institute within KP are also not accepted.
Reserved slots (50 seats)
A total of 50 seats are reserved for the specialties below. If more than 50 applicants apply, all of them are enrolled in the induction process (if a slot is allotted). If fewer than 50 apply, the vacant seats are not given to any other specialty and remain unfilled. The NOC based induction policy is the same as for uninhabited specialties.
| Level | Specialties |
|---|---|
| First fellowship | Emergency Medicine, Radiation Oncology, Anaesthesia, ENT, Eye, Psychiatry, Microbiology, Chemical Pathology, Histopathology, Periodontology, Forensic Medicine, Family Medicine, Physical & Rehabilitation Medicine |
| Subspecialty | Nephrology, Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Neurosurgery, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia |
| Second fellowship | ENT sub-specialties, Ophthalmology sub-specialties, Paediatrics sub-specialties, Rheumatology, Critical Care Medicine, Vascular Surgery, Breast Surgery, Orthopaedics / Neurosurgery sub-specialties, Surgical Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Thoracic Surgery, Transplant Nephrology, Pain Medicine, Paediatric & Congenital Cardiac Surgery, Colorectal Surgery |
Allowances
Being uninhabited or reserved matters only for induction. Extra or special allowances are paid only in specialties notified by the KP Finance Department.
What this means for you
- If your merit is borderline for a popular specialty, an uninhabited or reserved specialty can be a realistic option.
- Check the seat list of each specialty on the PGMI website during induction before you fill your preferences, because preferences cannot be changed or surrendered later.
