> PGMI Peshawar entrance test (ETEA) pattern for FCPS-II: medical, surgical and dental groups, subject weightage and which specialties fall in each.

For first fellowship (FCPS-II) induction through PGMI Peshawar, the **entrance test carries 75 out of 100 merit marks**. The test is conducted by ETEA (Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency, KP). This makes it the most important part of your merit. See the [first fellowship merit calculator](https://upmed.net/pgmi-first-fellowship-merit-calculator/) to see how your test score changes your merit.

## Three categories of test

There are three separate tests: **Medical specialties, Surgical specialties and Dentistry**. You sit the test of the group your specialty belongs to.

| Group | Specialties named in the IPM |
| --- | --- |
| Medical specialties (MBBS) | Anaesthesia, Community Medicine, Medicine & Allied, Pathology, Psychiatry, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Family Medicine |
| Surgical specialties (MBBS) | Anatomy, Diagnostic Radiology, ENT, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery & Allied, Ophthalmology |
| Dentistry (BDS) | FCPS dental specialties |

## Paper distribution: MBBS (medical and surgical groups)

| Section | Medical group | Surgical group |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Basic medical subjects: Applied Physiology, Applied Pharmacology, Applied Pathology and Applied Anatomy | 20% | 20% |
| General Principles of Medicine / General Principles of Surgery | 50% (Medicine) | 50% (Surgery) |
| English language | 10% | 10% |
| Bioethics | 10% | 10% |
| Basic biostatistics | 5% | 5% |
| Communication skills | 5% | 5% |

## Paper distribution: BDS (dentistry group)

| Section | Share |
| --- | --- |
| Basic subjects: Applied Physiology, applied Dental Materials, applied Oral Biology, Community Dentistry, Oral Pathology | 30% |
| Clinical subjects of final year BDS: Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Operative Dentistry, Periodontology / Oral Medicine | 40% |
| English language | 10% |
| Bioethics | 10% |
| Basic biostatistics | 5% |
| Communication skills | 5% |

## How to prepare

- Half of the MBBS paper is **general principles** of medicine or surgery, so your FCPS-I preparation is the base.
- **30%** of the paper (English, bioethics, biostatistics and communication skills) is not clinical. These are easy marks if you prepare them, and they decide close merit positions.
- Basic sciences are asked as **applied** questions, not pure recall.
- Since the test is 75% of merit, a few extra correct answers can matter more than a few percent difference in MBBS marks.
